Optimisation process taking forever!

Optimisation process still not complete after 24 hours :-( Can anyone provide some help please? Thanks Ray

Are you using a third-party "cleaning—tuneup—optimization" app? Is so, there's the problem. Cat-like, Macs clean themselves; extra "dreck-ware" simply gets in the way of elegant self-maintenance routines you paid Apple to build into the OS. Third-party maintenance apps only destabilize and degrades performance.

Note that the "optimizing" screenshot Jack posted should NOT appear on a iMac—the subject of this forum section— because the iMac does not use a rechargeable battery. Please confirm your Mac's model and sub-model you are using so we can be more specific in our advice.

If so, optimizing may take a while after a macOS update.

However, if you feel the process has been occurring for too long, restarting your Mac may help.

Hi,

Try to check optimization app process with Activity Monitor if it crashed or not.

If it crashed, force quite it with Activity Monitor or Apple Menu > Force Quit...

You can use it while it's optimizing.
