Family Sharing iCloud+, Can a family member stay in the family but stop using the shared iCloud storage and revert to an individual plan?

We have a family sharing account set up for iCloud+ (2TB) through Apple One. I know members can opt to keep their existing iCloud+ storage plan or join the family shared storage if they want.

The question is, once a member joins shared family storage, can they choose to leave the shared plan and start paying for their own storage at a later date (or return to the free 5GB tier).

Second question, can this be done while staying in the family and retaining access to other shared services?
