Ipad Battery draining due to background app activity

I have iPad Air 3rd generation. For past three days the battery is continuously draining due to background activity of the app “mail”. Even automatic fetching is off. It is not clear why “mail” is continuously running in background. Even the Mail app is closed.

iOS 16.5 battery drain from the Mail app I’m having a weird battery issue after upgrading my iPhone 12 to iOS 16.5. The Mail app is constantly working in the background. I even disabled automatic data fetch. I also tried restarting the device. Nothing helps. I think it’s related to the latest update as the problem started right after I installing it. Any ideas?

iPadOS 16 battery drain Im seeing a consistent issue on 2 iPad pros that i’ve upgraded to 16.1.1 where the Find My and Mail applications are draining the battery overnight. Example: from midnight to 5:30 AM, my battery went from 75% to 50%. screen shot attached and you can see the graph trending down this only happens on version 16. Anyone else out there seeing this type of behavior. ?

Have you considered changing Settings > General > Background App Refresh to “off”?
