Recovering playlists after ugraded iTunes

After I have upgraded to newer versions of iTunes in the past, I always have lost tons of music, although most was recovered either by reripping CDs or by scouring my harddrives to locate the original files. Understanding that from the saved iTunes library I can recover most of what is eliminated during an upgrade is there any way to recover playlists intact? Some of these I have spent countless hours composing and in the past I have always had to recompose after an upgrade. Does anyone have any pearls on maybe how to preserve my library intact as well as my current playlist? My phone needs a software update and iTunes states that this cannot happen without upgrading to the most recent version. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I am currently using iTunes version 9.0.3.15 and am using Windows 7 Home Premium OS. Thanks in advance for any help to this matter.

Sorry to reply but alas,.. no help with the installation in safe mode and I have already tried the unregister and reregister at the command prompt to no avail. Thanks for your time anyway..

i just up dated to the new i tuns 10 and lost all my movies music and app i bought and it is no longer in my computer or i tunes how can i get it all back?
please help

Just curious - will anything else install?
Only other thing I read was to reinstall windows 7, esp if nothing else will install.

I've really not tried to install anything since iTunes failed. Will try though and let you know, thanks K.

Unfortunately I think something is wrong with the windows installer itself.

I downloaded CCleaner and installed it after booting up into Safe Mode, just as a test. I didn't get any message about notbeing able to install because it was in Safe Mode - the install completed, and CCleaner runs OK.

Best of luck getting this sorted! I can't find any repair tools for Win 7 mentioned on the internet - just a full-blown Win 7 restore. Make sure you backup all your good stuff, not just itunes. Win 7 has built-in helps on how to do that.

Moving forward, Win 7 has a feature to create restore points. I plan on doing that about once a month. That way if I install something that messes up my PC, it should be easier to rollback rather than do a reinstall of the operating system.

Thanks for the help K, I have been able to install other programs and utilities and windows installer seems to work fine with those. I haven't tried to install anything in safe mode, not really sure if that is an issue. Alas, my last restore points are at least 7 months old. It may be worth a shot. Or maybe a 'Windows Repair'. If you have any thoughts, I'm all ears. Thanks again!
