how can i tell what albums a photo is in using icloud photos app
Hi NHarrison,
There is no built-in tool to identify which albums may contain a particular photos. It's important to note that albums in Photos don't contain actual images, but rather references to the item in your Photos Library.
While there may be third party solutions to identify this information, the closest solution you may try in the Photos software would be to make a note of how many photos each album contains, and then temporarily delete the photo in question. Recheck the album photo count to see which ones have dropped by 1. Recovering the photo from the Recently Deleted folder should subsequently show that album photo count return to the previous value.
Regards.

You would have to write the name of the album into the Info for a photo, for example as a keyword. Then you can tell by the keywords which albums you added a photo to.
Or run an Apple Script to search all albums for the currently selected photo. I have not tested this on the current system version, but here is a script written for Photos 7 on Monterey: How to find out the albums a photo is in: Jacques Rioux's Script, Monterey version for Photos 7 or later - Apple Community
But for what purpose do you need to know the album a photo is in? The albums are not storing your photos, so you can add a photo to as many albums as you like without adding duplicates. If you see a photo and think it shloud be added to the album "Birds" just add it to the album, it will not be added twice. The only albums, where you would create a duplicate would be Shared albums, as they are creating a copy, when we share photos.
As léonie suggests, I include the names of all the albums containing a picture as keywords.
An alternative to using scripts is to use the app Photos Workbench ($29) which includes "Find Albums Including Image" as a menu function. I mostly use Photos Workbench to batch change and edit titles for pictures. Houdah software people are very helpful.
