Can I upgrade my Mac Pro to an M2 chip? How do I go about that? What else would I need to update hardware wise?
You cannot upgrade the processor. Also the Mac Pro is not out for sale yet. It is in pre-order. They did not announce the upgrade kit. It’s a replacement. If you want a new Mac Pro you have to pay $7000 dollars for that.

In my opinion, that statement is so egregiously misleading it is FALSE.

They are responsible for his own sloppy language, and you should be complaining to them if you feel that description of this new machine as a "Drop in Upgrade" is less that accurate.
jjohnstone – Most of the people who participate in this forum are customers, helping other customers. If you're looking for an official Apple response, a user-to-user forum is an odd place to look for it.
Note that the M2 Ultra Mac Pros top out at 192 GB of RAM. If your Intel Mac Pro has 768 GB of RAM – and you are running the sort of specialized applications that actually need that much RAM – the M2 Ultra Mac Pro might not be the right fit for you.
I'd pay 'whatever shipping' would cost you to send it 61938?
It would be an 'upgrade' to my 2009 cMP 'booting' and 'running' 2021 Monterey 12.xxx from its internal nvme PCI lane drive!
Isn't it just over half of the throughput speed of your 2019 MP?

Then why did I get an email from Apple this morning talking about the new M2 Ultra Mac Pro?
It IS upgradeable.
You can plug in whatever graphics cards and PCIe slot devices you desire.
You can add RAM.
You can upgrade to a larger boot drive (but no credit for exchange of the old drive.)
In some use cases, the M2 pro is not a good option. The ram limitation is not good. An upgrade kit, would be easy to design and could have been completed in store.
