iPad while using keeps returning to Home Screen. How do I trouble shoot?

Is your iPad screen cracked? Or how about damage on the back?
Please update to iPadOS 16.5: as some issues can be resolved with a new copy of the operating system: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
If you still have issues, and there is no physical damage that may be causing this, ensure your screen is clean and dry, and has no screen protectors: How to clean your Apple products - Apple Support
Next, isolate this. Is it occurring only when you do certain movements? Or is it only while in certain apps? Is it only when plugged in to the charger? Or is it only when you have the adaptor or external drive plugged in to your iPad?
