ATV Gen 1

I can understand Apple no longer supporting the Apple TV Gen 1, but if they’re not going to support such a product they need to at least replace it with something. And no, the current streaming Apple TVs are worthless for off grid use like in a camper or a sailboat. I have an Apple TV Gen 1 that I’ve upgraded with a large solid state drive and it works perfectly. The problem is getting media onto it. I’m in the process of installing the old Sierra OS in Parallels in hopes I’ll finally be able to still connect to my library and sync to my old Apple TV so I can take it with me this summer on my sailboat. All of this is very annoying since the hardware is more than sufficient to handle music, photos and movies.

Apple TV (1st generation) will not connect to the iTunes Store anymore, since May 2018. That includes both direct online streaming, as well as authentication of Store-bought downloaded files. In a way, that relates to DRM, as this step does not apply to non-DRM’ed content.

Okay, ended up installing Yosemite on a separate partition as nothing else that I tried worked. Had to also enter my password followed by the two-factor authentication code to login into my iTunes account. Everything appears to be working now with the exception of syncing movies. They’re greyed out and won’t sync. Set preferred playback to SD and also unchecked the box to download HD movies on my account page to no avail. Movies have definitely downloaded in SD as the file size is much smaller than the HD file size, but still no luck syncing. Could this be related to some sort of new DRM issue?
