What is "open and save panel service"? Right now I have three instances of it showing in my Activity Monitor. One is followed by (Mail), one by (Microsoft Word) and one by (Acrobat). What are they and why are they using so much of my CPU?

MacOS bug that has been here for a loooooong time. MacOS is so unstable now, with hard crashes and hangs. And don't get me started on Final Cut Pro. Gives me flashback of Windows 95 and MacOS 7.5... You'd think they'd not release something this bad these days, but they do and get away with it.
Have you tried booting into safemode to allow it to run its automatic diagnostics? It will look for and fix many problems.
