small info boxes not disappearing in Mac OS

Every now and then when I finish something a small info box comes up, about 2.5" x 2.75" telling me something but no matter what = whether I click on OK or whatever, it doesn't go away -- This is irritating not fatal. Has not happened before the past month or two == at present I basically click and drag it to the bottom L corner so it's out of sight, out of mind == this also happened with Default Folder X and maybe others -

Mac mini, macOS 12.6

I may have made this suggestion to you once before but hope not.

Interesting observation from Learned Contributor @ Barney-15E

Maybe there is some there worth exploring

Suggest the User start with Points 1 to 4 and then Test

Still having issues, move onto Steps 5 and 6 and Test Again

Still no resolve - move onto Step 7 and follow instructions therein

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

5 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

6 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

7 - Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

FYI regarding M1 / M2 Computer Specifically

Part 1 of 2

Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Part 2 of 2

Having enlarged your Picture and the Text of the image reads >>

" Your Apple ID and phone number are now being used for iMessage and FaceTime on a new iPad.

If you recently signed into "Victoria's iPad 10th Gen." you can ignore this notification. "

Is this true and accurate ?

There is no relationship between this Pop Up message and " Default Folder X and maybe others "

It is a message send from Apple Alerting the User ( you ) to a New Device you have Added to your User ID Account

The verify this - suggest logging into My Apple ID and look for the Devices Category for the " iPad 10th Gen. " as listed

I am posting the EtrecheckPro report just in case = but altho I followed directions to get to Safe mode [M-1 Silicon Mini on Monterey] it never got there: I held the Power button as I should and then the drive showed up and even tho I pushed Shift, it opened normally and not in safe. Maybe the reboot helped? I know it caused the small box to disappear.

I can't say any one of the near-infinite system modifications you have running are causing the problem. What I am amazed about is that you don't have more problems.

I would say most would not affect it, but I don't know. There are several that I don't know anything about, so wouldn't know if they could interfere with those notifications or not.

TidyUp?

BookMacster?

NeoFinder?

Delay start?

Dropzone?

Jun 8, 2023 5:53 AM in response to Barney-15E

TidyUp finds duplicates & does a great job of it, I don't really need BookMacster, I do need NeoFinder = use it to index all my many drives, DelayStart is an app which allows you to load apps separately from the LogIn window - I find it useful and Dropzone is an app which allows you to drop things onto it and moves them to assigned places and does other things. Each of these I do find useful and maybe even essential= other than BookMacster tho I rarely use that.

I have my computer set to update automatically other than for the OS = I'm sticking with Monterey right now, as I'm just getting used to it and apps are working fine with it in general. I'll check ref firmware updates = I guess I assume they'd be automatically done but don't know and will check it out.

Should note that I have the same issue with my MacBook Pro, also Monterey and M-1 so will post that info == many thanks for your kind and helpful patience and guidance.

[ps just checked and yes I have the latest display firmware update.]
