iPhone recovery timeout change/bypass

My iPhone returned to me by miracle after it was lost. But, it is in the state "locked for security reason".Somebody tried to get in until it was completely locked.

Seems that there is just one way to get it back running - the recovery mode with use of computer and USB cord. It is clear.

BUT, I face now strange problem. Seems that there is timeout for recovery process 15 minutes! After timeout is over, both recovery mode and download is stopped and iPhone dismiss from the Finder. The official help advices to repeat "steps 2-3", but the download starts every time from the beginning. So, this advice is not very useful.

The image data to download is over 6GB. If my counting is correct, I need internet connection with speed over 60Mbit per second... I haven't. Who has?

QUESTION: Is there any correct way how to change or bypass this "not very clever" timeout, please?

Thanks for help

Hey jiri274,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. The information below may help.

Recovery mode may time out, however the update file should continue to download. Once the download completes, you can then place the iPhone back into Recovery Mode, and follow the prompts to restore.

It will no longer need to download the file, and will continue with the process. You can review this information in Step 4 of this article: If you can't update or restore your iPhone or iPod touch.

You may be able to reset the device to factory settings without a computer. We've shared the steps below.

1. From your device's Lock Screen, try to enter your passcode five times until the "[Device] Unavailable" screen appears and your device asks you to try again later.
2. When you're able to, continue to enter your passcode until the "Security Lockout" screen appears and you get the Erase [Device] option in the bottom corner of the screen.
3. Tap Erase [Device], then tap Erase [Device] again to confirm.
4. Enter your Apple ID password to sign out of your Apple ID on your device.
5. Tap Erase [Device] to permanently delete all of your data and settings.
6. When your device restarts, follow the onscreen instructions to set up your device again, restore your data and settings from a backup, and set a new passcode.

You can only reach the "Security Lockout" screen if you have an active cellular or Wi-Fi connection and previously enabled Find My on your device. After you try to enter your password ten times, your device will either erase itself or show Security Lock.

For future reference, the steps on located in this article: If you see an iPhone or iPad unavailable message or Security Lockout screen.

Take care.
