My Fix for GPS Apps Crashing and freezing with or without CarPlay

I couldn’t reply to the other posts that had these problems, but thought I’d share what solution I came up with after the problem reoccurred with my 3rd phone replacement. I also did not want to have to set my phone up as new. This is what fixed it for me and hopefully you.

I started wondering if there was a way to reset just the location permissions or turn them off one-by-one until I found an app that my be causing the issue. Turns out you can.

Ultimately what I did was reset all of the location permissions Figuring worst-case scenario I’d have to tell each app how it could use the location permissions when I opened them. I’m slowly adding back app permissions for location but haven’t had a single problem since doing the reset. To do so, go to the Settings App on iPhone. From there General —> Transfer or Reset iPhone —> Reset —> Reset Location & Privacy.

You can also try one-by-one by app but I thought this was too much effort. To try this, you would go to Settings —> Privacy & Security —> Location Services. From there you can change when an app uses GPS and see which ones are using it and when (While using, never, when shared, always).

After this, any app that uses GPS will ask you when you re-open it for the location settings you want to allow for that app. So far as I’ve been using my apps normally, I haven’t had a problem since doing this. Google maps works, Apple Maps works, Waze works. I’m not sure why this fixed anything, and I’m sure eventually I’ll open an app that uses GPS that will cause it to reoccur, but at least for me, this fixed all of my problems.
