Changing from wireless printing to usb cable connection

I am trying to switch from a wireless printing connection to a USB wired printer on a 21" iMac running Ventura 13.4. The Mac is not recognizing the cabled connection even though I have downloaded a new driver. Help?

If the printer was configured to use AirPort, connecting it to USB ended that wireless printing feature. You must download the vendor specific printer driver that supports Ventura (macOS 13), and not just any driver. You must remove and re-add the printer, choosing the correct driver version you just downloaded.

I bought the Canon MG-5300 printer in early 2012, so it's ancient and no longer manufactured. Canon does not produce an updated driver for its use on OS Ventura (13). The computer I was trying to connect it to with a USB cable is a 21" iMac M1 purchased in 2022. So I've got a mismatch with regards to it being recognized on anything other than my LAN. It prints wirelessly, but I've had to purchase an app that has reverse engineered the old Canon driver in order to get it to be able to scan. It will die sooner or later, but so far it has lasted longer than any printer I've ever had!
