5GSA Private 5G, iPhone won't make registration attempt.
I'm an SDR hobbyist and Electrical Engineer by trade.
Since 5G was released, plenty of companies are chasing after the iPhone 5G registration.
After the ios17 beta release I think we're closer than ever to connecting an iPhone to private 5G networks. This is going to open up so many new business cases that I couldn't care less about off hours, but my bosses sure are pushing for it. So I'm posting here to give me current status and see if anyone can give me some bread crumbs to move one step forward.
Private 5G Release 17, validated using multiple android phones (Pixel, Samsung, Sony)
gNb: Using SRSRAN because it's open source and URSP B210 because it's *mostly* affordable lol.
SIM card: Osmocom SJA2 with service 124 and 129 activated. (This turns on the 5G SA toggle in the iPhone cell data options -> Voice & Data, 5G On √, 5G SA √)
APN: "default" no user log in, matches my din profile in the private network.
PLMN: MCC: 999 MNC: 01
5G Band: Band 78 and Band 41.
So where I'm at is; iPhone manual cell search will show me the correct PLMN 999 01 (It would never populate for 999 99). I'll select it to attempt to register. After waiting 2 or so minutes, I'll receive a pop up suggesting the network is "unavailable".
I checked my RF with a spectrum analyzer, Registered a phone using PLMN 00101 (Android's love this PLMN). The hardware is good, the core is good. Then I switch PLMN back to 999 01. Same issue with iPhone.
Help I'm looking for ;
If there was an app that could show me any radio logs on the iPhone (long shot, I'm sure, android has this, called logcat)
Or if there was more documentation to link beyond the ios17 update notes from the show case this week.
And generally, if anyone can point my enquiry to a more appropriate forum.
I'd appreciate it. Love you guy.
