Unable to set up iMessage on MacBook Air

Trying to set up my Macbook Air so my text messages are just like my iPhone 13. On the computer it continues to spin without connecting and finally asks me to change my Apple id password. Having made a new password, this may not work and continues to happen without any apparent reason. My Apple id works fine for any other areas where it is requested.
