Batteries degrade over time with usage due to chemical aging, that's just how they work.
You can expect about a 1% drop per month with average use on an iPhone. And the measurement isn't always linear.
If it has dropped to 99.9%, it will register as 99% so that is why it looks like you've lost a full percentage point when you really haven't.
Apple recommends replacing it when it reaches 80%. To check your battery health, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health.
