iPad overheating

My iPad Air 5 frequently becomes extremely hot when just charging, to the point where it stops charging to cool down. (It is not being used when this occurs). I use a 30w apple MacBook Air charger, and was wondering whether it’s the chargers high wattage or more likely to be an issue with the battery. (Most of the information I could find online was vague).

thanks.

Your Apple 30W USB-C Power Adapter should not harm a healthy iPad - but, having a higher potential output than the standard iPad Power Adapter, it has the capacity to cause more damage if something were to go wrong.

As described, as the iPad is overheating while charging, you would be best advised to have your iPad tested and assessed by Apple’s technicians. You would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to hands-on test and assess your iPad and Power Adapter(s):
