Overheating 20W Charger with iPhone 17: Common Issue or Cause for Concern?

Hey everyone,

I’ve noticed that my 20W charger gets really hot every time I charge my iPhone 17. Is this something others are experiencing too, or is it a sign of a problem? Could it be related to trickle charging with the iPhone 17 and the lower output of the charger? Any suggestions on how to fix this, or should I head to the service centre? Thanks in advance!

It is normal for a charger to get hot when charging. My chargers, both for iPad, iPhone and MacBook, also get hot. But if it gets so hot that you can't touch it without burning yourself, then it is too hot and you should stop using it immediately.

It is also no problem to use a 20W charger. You can also easily use a charger with higher or lower Watts. Your iPhone 17 regulates itself, depending on how much or how little power it receives. The only thing you may experience by using lower Watts is that charging takes longer.

In short. The most important thing is that your charger is original, or from another recognized brand, then everything is ok. Stay away from cheap copycat chargers from Temu.
