Hello, I backed up my iPad with an encrypted backup through the Finder App both yesterday and today, and the older backup was nowhere to be seen upon clicking the "Manage Backups" button: I found a page on the official apple support stating you can choose to delete or archive backups, but no detailed information on how 'archiving' a backup to preserve it was possible. How is this done?

After some experimentation, it looks like I've come to the deal!
Backups by default are replaced by the newer backup - that is, if they haven't been archived by pressing the 'archive' option after control-clicking the backup: when I do this the backup name updates by displaying the date.

On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later:
If the backup that you are looking for isn’t there, then it’s gone. Every time you backup, you overwrite the previous backup and it is no longer available, unless you archive that particular backup before backing up again.
Great, so that gets me to the folder location. do I then just simply make a copy of the backup folder and put it somewhere else, to put the copy back in its original location if I need it another time?
I know that you are asking about the actual backup, not the folder. Don’t change the location of the backup folder.
When you opened the finder and selected you device, under the general tab, did you click on Manage backups? You should a list of your backups in the resulting window.
By 'backup folder' I meant the actual backup, not the place it's stored!

I’m glad you finally figured it out.
Older archived backups are dated in the backup name as a reference. I get that you’re doing it in a Mac, but archiving doesn’t work on a PC, for anyone thinking of it.
