I have used my Apple Cash through Apple Pay at a few different physical locations. One specific location will take Apple Pay (if I use a linked credit card) but when I try to use Apple Pay with Apple Cash I get a "DECLINED" error.
What is the difference in the payment mechanisms between Apply Pay with a credit card vs. Apple Pay with Apple Cash? And why does one work but not the other in just specific locations?
What ‘location’ would that be? What are you trying to buy?
If you’re trying to use it at a gas station to pay at the pump, they usually authorize the transaction for a fairly high amount to ensure that the final sale will go through when you’re done pumping. In that case, you may not have enough in the cash account to cover the authorization.
Sorry, it appears that Apple Pay has evolved a bit since I last got involved with it.
You are already familiar with Apple Pay's relationship with credit/debit cards. Apple Cash relies on debit or prepaid cards, already in your Apple Wallet, to fund it. Actually, not all prepaid cards work with it either. Credit cards cannot be used to fund it at all.
So, there may be an issue with this particular store that is not accepting your debit card (via Apple Cash,) even though they may support Apple Pay. Since you are able to use Apple Cash for other store purchases, but not this one, would be my best guess.

Apple Cash is designed to provide you with a means to send or receive money to an individual. It is not the same as Apple Pay, which is basically a method to use virtual credit/debit cards, to make purchases either online or at a store that accepts Apple Pay.

OK, but then Apple's claim that you can use Apple Cash anywhere Apple Pay is accepted is actually FALSE. There needs to be some information on where you can and cannot use Apple Cash. Just "try and see" is not really an acceptable answer - but that is where we currently are with Apple.
Yeah I am confused on all this as well. There is Apple Cash, Apple Pay, Apple Card, and maybe another I can’t keep up with them all. I was trying to send a friend some cash the other day and I put some cash on my Apple account, and the went to send my friend the money and there wasn’t any on my Apple Cash balance. So I went back and looked to see where my mistake was and apparently the Apple account you can’t transfer money out of you can only use it to pay for stuff like Apple Music etc. Basically im just confused on all this and it seems all convoluted when it shouldn’t be, and then maybe I’m just a little slow on the draw on all this lol 😂 idk. Any explanation (can be “in a nutshell” explanation lol) of the difference of all this and how it works would be greatly appreciated. Thank y’all for your time and patience.
But you can use Apple Cash through Apple Pay, so I don’t understand your point.
