Edit the footnote separator so the line is shorter and text is closer to it

How do I insert a footnote in iPad Pages? I have an iPad Pro and version 13.0 of Pages. I cannot figure out how to insert a footnote in a document. I have followed the instructions in Help, as well as those given in the forum, but nothing seems to work for me. No matter what I do, an option to insert a footnote does not appear for me. Can I set an automatic font size for footnotes? I have a curious problem for IOS Pages: Three weeks ago, whenever I made a footnote, the font size of the footnote would be smaller than the font size of the text, which made perfect sense. Suddenly, that has now changed. It is now the same as the font size of the document. I don’t know why this change has happened. Perhaps someone has an answer. This raises the question: Can I stipulate a footnote font size for all new documents?

still no footnotes and endnotes in the same document? I was just curious if Apple has addressed this shortcoming in Pages: not being to have both endnotes and footnotes in the same document. I thought I'd edit a book in Pages until I found out if you use endnotes and occasionally have a footnote with an asterisk reference. Amazing to me, if that's still the case.

The only adjustments allowed to the footnotes are in the footnote tab in the Pages sidebar. There is zero opportunity to edit the footnote separator length, position, or text proximity.
