3. Proceed from there as necessary

Unfortunately, until you correctly enter the password, the note will remain inaccessible.

There is no recovery or workaround.

The “good news” is that there is no “failed attempt limit or lockout” - so you are free to keep on attempting varistipns.

If you set a password hint, the option to display your hint will become available after a few missed attempts.
