Focus automation & lock screen

I use the Mindfulness Focus mode on my iPhone, during my meditations.

I set the focus to run automatically with the use of certain apps (or when my meditation app is accessed). However, as soon as my phone screen turns off/locks, the Focus also deactivates, even though I am still using (listening to) the app.

It is very frustrating and disruptive.

Is there any way to override this feature? Scheduling the focus doesn’t work as I don’t use my apps on a routine. Manually turning on/off is not ideal because I always forget.

Any help is appreciated.

Hey there Errcaw,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

We want to help you get Focus working in the best way possible for you so your mindfulness experience is the best it can be. Based on how you described the issue, it sounds like this is expected behavior. The way that Focus works, when you open a specific app, it can be set to trigger that Focus to activate. However, once your iPhone is locked, the system perceives that you are no longer actively using the app in question since it's not active on your screen. This then triggers the Focus to be disabled, as you've noticed.

One option for this would be to temporally disable the Auto-Lock feature inside of Settings > Display & Brightness. By accessing that option and setting Auto-Lock to "Never", your iPhone will no longer automatically lock and thus the Focus you're using will not automatically turn off. Once you are done using the mindfulness app, you can simply set Auto-Lock back to your preferred amount of time and should be good to go.

We hope this does the trick for you!

Cheers.
