Are screen time limits on child's device cumulative or overlapping?

Hi, I have searched the forum and there's no clear answer to this, so I'm trying with a fresh question - if I set my kids' screen time for "all apps and categories" at 2 hours but then my kids' iMessage at 3 hours, does that mean they could use, say, youtube for two hours and then messages for three hours, making 5 hours total? Or do the times run concurrently and if they use Youtube for two hours, then they only have an additional hour for messages, making it three hours total?

Hi ra2rn,

Thanks for posting here in Apple Support Communities. If you set all apps and categories to 2 hours, then that is two hours total. iMessage is set as default to 'Always Allowed'. You wont be able to set both 'All Apps & Categories' and iMessage separately. Check out more here: Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
