Is Apple TV 4K set up within Bravia necessary?

Hi there.

I’ve been watching my new Apple TV 4K 3rd gen on my Sony Bravia TV for a while now. It’s connected to the eARC/ARC port and all is fine. I have recently added a pair of Homepod 2 speakers to my setup as well.

The Sony Bravia has recently been asking me to set up the ATV 4K as a device on the Bravia, including a permanent notification.

Is there any advantage to setting up my ATV4K with my Sony Bravia TV? Is it just a case of being able to control the ATV4K with my Sony remote? I’m happy with the setup as it is and don’t really need that. I also don’t want to cause any compatibility issues.

Many Thanks.

Apple TV 4K (3rd generation)

If you want to use your HomePods for sound on everything on your tv (not just Apple TV) it might help for more control for volume and in switching inputs and how the eARC input behaves. You can label the inputs. To have eARC work for all sound (external speakers) your homepods need to be assigned to the same room as the ATV and set as the default audio with the HDMI cable from ATV to the eARC port on the tv. Then enable Braviasync and set up your ATV and Audio system as asked. More about this here: Use HDMI ARC or eARC with your Apple TV 4K - Apple Support And control your Apple TV with your home theater or universal remote

If your Bravia supports Apple Homekit you can add it to that so it shows in the home App and you can use Siri to turn on the tv or Apple TV. If off, it should turn both on (if you asked Siri to turn on the ATV) and switch inputs. Otherwise if the tv is on, just press any key on the Siri Remote for it to switch inputs, Additionally you might like to set up Dolby Vision in External Inputs- HDMI Signal Format - Dolby Vision. Then set up Dolby Vision on the ATV . Use the Sony tv remote to adjust picture settings to your preference.

For reference I’m using the second Gen ATV4k with Sony Bravia X90K
