Solution: AirPods Pro need to be forgotten and re-paired EVERY time you use them

Problem: AirPods Pro won’t connect. You need to forget them in Bluetooth settings, then re-pair them to get them working. Then you need to do the same thing AGAIN because they stop working the moment you put them back in their case. Handover to different devices also doesn’t work.

Solution: you need to hard reset the AirPods Pro (not merely re-pairing them over and over again).

How (as an apple genius did for me):

  1. put airpods in in case, ensure all fully charged.
  2. forget them in Bluetooth settings (don’t forget this, haha, or the next step won’t work)
  3. keep holding the rear case button on the AirPods Pro Case until the light turns from white to orange.
  4. then you ought to be able re-pair like normal, except it should stick this time.

Posting this here as the previous threads I found here on google didn’t have the solution, only generic troubleshooting instructions that don’t help. Those threads were closed, so I was unable to directly reply them.

I tried this and it’s still not fixing the issue for my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I am having to forget the device and re-pair the Airpods Pro every single time I use them—even if I just take them out for a few seconds, they suddenly fail to connect to the 15 Pro Max and I have to go through the process all over again. Seems like this is a recurring and widespread issue on the 15 Pro Max. Infuriating. I never had this issue with my 12 Pro Max.
