If Migration Assistant is Slow:

Close any Open Apps: An app that is not responding may be using too much system resources. So, if you are logged in to the macOS, then use Apple menu > Force Quit..., and close all open items, but Find My.

Migration Assistant can't be run with any other applications open. That's why it closes them all on both Macs before it even begins.
