Many people advise that you not put anything on the screen or keyboard of a MacBook. There is so little space between the keyboard and the screen that putting anything between can result in the keyboard putting pressure on the screen, possibly causing it to crack.
The only things that Apple sells are privacy screens which, if I understand them correctly, you remove before closing the device.
if you are tempted to apply an aftermarket protective film, uh, DON'T.
The display does not open far enough to be damaged by rocks, and it is NOT a touchscreen.
Normal, careful use will not damage it, even after a very long time.
The last time I bought a new MacBook pr, the protective sticker was OPAQUE, and larger than the display. NO guessing was required.
If you think there is a film over the entire surface of the display, and it is not larger than the glass, it is likely the anti-reflective coating, and not removable.
