The other hazard is that stick-on screen "protectors" damage the anti-reflective coating. When the "protector" ages and the edges curl—and they will—people remove them to install a new cover. Only then do owners find the old cover removed swathes of the anti-reflection coating, leaving the display an ugly, blotchy mess. Permanently.

Now comes the pain in the wallet: Retina displays are ONE SEALED UNIT. If you give yourself a case of the Blotchies, the entire display unit must be replaced. The cost with labor is in the range of US$500-600 based on reports here.

Do you want something that inflicts more damage that it prevents?

Many people advise that you not put anything on the screen or keyboard of a MacBook. There is so little space between the keyboard and the screen that putting anything between can result in the keyboard putting pressure on the screen, possibly causing it to crack.

The only things that Apple sells are privacy screens which, if I understand them correctly, you remove before closing the device.
