Device limit reached for this Apple ID??? I already cleared all of my other devices and deleted computer and old phones, still unable to download music because of this message???

Hello, I recently got a new phone, I deleted my old phone and any other devices associated with my Apple ID, including old computers, old phones, everything except for my current phone, watch, and computer are deleted from my Apple ID.

When I go to download music still, it says the device limit has been reached for my Apple ID. How do I resolve this message? I have previously had 4-5-6 devices and no issues with downloading, now I have only 3.

After I tried to use the Mac version of Apple Music, I found a way to bypass the current UI and use the old iTunes UI to do this setting. I hope Apple will not delete this setup method. This is an old setting option, the new and strange setting option has been deleted (strange)

  1. Click Change Country or Region in Account > Account Settings to open an old iTunes settings interface. as fig.1
  2. Press Cancel and you will return to the old Apple Music settings, as shown in figure fig.2. You can see that you can find the settings that cannot be found in the section of Download and Purchases: Manage Devices
  3. Click Manage Device to see a list of devices that have not been removed and are hidden by the new version settings.

I hope you have gotten this fixed. But just for anyone else who has this issue I did as well. The only thing to fix it is to contact apple support. I downloaded the support app and did the chat. Had to sign out of media & purchases under my AppleID twice. First time the issue was not resolved. After the agent did some stuff on their end had me sign out again. After I signed out I didn’t sign back in right away I did go to Apple Music and sign in there first then back to media & purchases and sign in. Now I don’t have the device limit message popping up and can download my music!

I believe the answer to your question is in this official Apple Support Article:

View and remove your devices that are associated with Apple ID purchases - Apple Support

TL;DR

If you can't access your old devices or those have already been erased, then the only solution is to use a computer (Mac or PC) and

  1. Open the Apple Music app or Apple TV app
  2. Access your account from within the app
  3. Visit the "Manage Devices" section
  4. Remove all the old devices

I got an error trying to view the old settings in the Music app.

Instead, this worked for me. Use the System Settings app.

System Settings -> Apple ID -> Media & Purchases -> Account (click on Manage) -> Hidden Items (click on Manage Devices)

The dumb thing is that it opens the App Store app to do this. However, if you go directly to the App Store app and go to account, it shows the newer screen without Manage Devices. You have to do it via System Settings app.

Hopefully this workaround sticks around or Apple fixes it.

I tried over and over again and "manage devices" wouldn't do anything when I clicked on it.

I was about to lose all hope and then I tried one last ditch tactic; closing iTunes and using "run as Administrator".

All of a sudden when I launched iTunes as Admin, I was able to click the manage devices link and the devices were there so I can remove the old ones.

Yay!!

I had this issue as well and had cleared all the devices off my account and still couldn’t download music. I finally reached out to Apple support and they were Fantastic in helping me. I had to log out of my media and purchases while they rebooted the account and after the second time everything was fine and working properly. I was able to download music and haven’t had this issue since.
