I had my phone in my pocket and I guess an incorrect passcode got entered too many times and now it says my iphone is locked to owner. I know my passcode but I can't get a screen to enter it.

Once the passcode was entered too many times, the iPhone went into Activation Lock ... and anti-theft measure. The only way to regain access to your phone, regardless of knowing your Apple ID password, is to restore it.

If the phone displays Activation Lock......
Follow the instructions in the Apple Support document above your name. Otherwise, you may need to reset the phone and then set it up again.
