The entry level M2 MacBook Air does not support more than one external display. A Dock will not change this.

Any dock will work with the MacBook Air, but you are still limited to just 1 external display.

If you need 2 or more displays, then you need to upgrade to a 14" or 16" MacBook Pro with the M2 Pro chip at least.

hope this helps

It does not.

As clearly mentioned in the video at 3:15 , it does not magically make a Mac support more monitors than it would natively. Only as many the Mac natively supports.

If the connected Mac only supports one monitor, then no additional monitors will work through that dock. You'll just have extra data USB-C ports you can use.

While it is true that your Mac only supports a single connected display, it may be possible to drive a second display via AirPlay. Many recent Samsung and LG monitors offer native AirPlay 2 support, or you can connect an Apple TV to pretty much any monitor. You Mac will be able to support the internal display, an external display connected via a cable, and a second external display via AirPlay. It's not ideal, but it would work for applications that don't need a fast refresh rate.

There are docks with DisplayLink, or similar technologies, that might let you use a second monitor.

This doesn't change the capability of the hardware. It works by creating virtual screens on your computer, and then sending compressed updates to those screens to a dock equipped with the corresponding decoder chipset (e.g., the DisplayLink chipset). There may be more overhead than with a proper hardware connection … and the performance might not be ideal for things like high-end gaming.

But it might be a way to attach a second monitor when otherwise you couldn't.

That appears to be a Thunderbolt 3 dock with two DisplayPort outputs.

If it's like other Thunderbolt 3 docks, the only way that it can support two monitors is if

  • The computer to which it is connected supports two or more external displays
  • Both of the displays have a resolution of 4K or less
