iPad Storage

What is the difference between iPad storage and capacity / available ( in " about ") ?

The numbers aren't the same and I need some clarity on it before deciding whether to put some documents on my iPad instead of iCloud .

Additionally , where can I find out the meaning of GB , MB , KB etc. ?

On your screenshot, the total capacity of the device storage is 64 GB (that is what you purchased and will never change). the almost 20 GB used is everything you have stored on it, be it apps or the iOS or other files, photos, whatever - which leaves about 44 GB of storage empty or available.

And here is a link to check out about file sizes:

It boils down to that you cannot increase the internal storage size and need to keep track of it. Do not try to fill it up completely; it can actually stop working because it has no free "working" storage space.
