From whom did you buy it? When I ordered my Apple Watch 8 directly from Apple, it was charged somewhat but the instructions were to charge it. The main question is this - is the watch working for you?
That’s a good question. I’ll leave it to those who are more knowledgeable than I to step in with an opinion. In the mean time, Apple offers a good warranty and return policy. Keep an eye on your watch. I’m not sure how it is in India but you likely have 14 days to return it if you see a problem.

I bought it from an authorized apple store. iPlanet in Bangalore India. And it was a in the box sealed and everything.
The watch is working fine. I saw it completely out of charge and panicked a bit. Actually had to charge it for about 20 min and it turned on. it had the "green snake of death" (as per many internet blogs) view for sometime. It is working fine though. Right now, only little doubt I have is, would there be any battery issues? That actually the battery drained out from within the box?
Thank you, Carol. This was helpful. I observed my watch. For about 12 hours. Over night with sleep mode on battery dropped from 100% to about 67%. Hoping this is normal considering apple promised about 18hours of battery life
