iTunes keeps crashing when trying to log in - Windows 11

Current version of iTunes is garbage. Windows, iOS, and iTunes are all updated to their latest, every other time Windows updates or iTunes updates, it deauthorizes my already authorized computer and when I try to log into my iTunes account, the application crashes. Every time. And yes, I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. No change. Help.

I inadvertently stumbled upon the solution. Uninstall iTunes and download iTunes from the Apple Downloads page not the Windows store. Once installed, it will give you a message saying that iTunes can't be opened because the library was built from a newer version. Then, open apple software updater and let it install the updates after that. The version from the Windows store does not have apple software updater, that's why this problem occurred. Everything works just fine on my end now.

Open iTunes in “safe mode” (without external plug-ins) by:

Control-Shift (while opening iTunes)

and see if it still crashes. If not, that may give you a clue as to what is going on. Then look at the iTunes launch errors caused by iAdCore.dll and Install missing components section in:

BTW, are you installing iTunes from the Apple site or Microsoft Store? What version?

I've also tried everything here and nothing works. Just a few days ago iTunes was working fine, but today it would not start. After uninstalling and reinstalling, the app will now start, but it crashes when trying to log in.


BTW, because Apple forced Windows users to the Microsoft Store for current releases, some of the older troubleshooting/fix instructions (check the help menu for updates, running installer as admin, etc.) that applied to the older stand alone versions are irrelevant. All the links provided up to this point, go to the same article with this outdated information. Please take this as constructive criticism. Five links to the same page where most of the info is for old versions of the software doesn't provide users much to work with.


As a potentially useful side note, I've used the Windows uninstaller functions to also reset and repair the app and deleted all the directories pointed out in the links provided (that was potentially useful info). When I start the app now, I'm asked to agree to the license terms, then my entire library is fully accessible, but because I can't login, Apple Music is entirely inaccessible on this PC. This also means I can't authorize my PC, so (although I haven't tried yet), I'm guessing that backups aren't going to work either.


I'd really appreciate a fix for this before. Lacking access to paid services and the ability to back up my phone is problematic.

Yeah something is messed up with the Microsoft installer script or something. I had the same experience trying to install it from the MSFT store. You have to uninstall it and then grab it from the apple website, click "download other versions" rather than the button which will take you to the MSFT store. If you download it and install it directly from Apple it will work.

I kept having a similar issue with iTunes crashing or locking up (new PC Win11Pro), even just attempting to go to the Store or trying to create a new AppleID. One message that kept coming up when launching iTunes was "you don't have enough privileges".

So I right-clicked on iTunes and "ran as administrator". That solved everything! I was able to log into my account, access the store, etc.

I've never had to run iTunes as an administrator on any previous PC (and my Microsoft account is the administrator for the PC) so not sure what was going on. Anyway, all working now!
