Shortcuts on Apple Watch Ultra keep asking permission - "allow or don't allow"

I've made several shortcuts to trigger an application specific action (eg: in Todoist to create task). When I use it on my iPhone it asks one time to allow access to the application. After I gave that permission, the shortcut runs smoothly every time.

When I use the same shortcut on my watch, it keeps asking for the same permission every single time. This is very frustrating and there doesn't seem to be a way to permanently "allow" access to the app.

Please don't provide canned answers asking me to update my watch or my phone. They are both up to date and on the latest OS versions.

Just in case if someone is suffering from this “allow/ not allow” permission issue, I found the solution.

the symptom is the shortcut keeps asking “allow” or “not allow” when running shortcuts even after the initial “allow” permission.

what you can try is

  1. go to the shortcut that you want to use,
  2. tap the three dots to edit it,
  3. click the “i” icone at the bottom of the screen to see the properties,
  4. go to “Privacy” tab,
  5. If you see the “Allow this shortcut to access “ with the name of the app turned on,
  6. hit the “Reset Privacy “
  7. exit from the shortcut and come back to see if the thing in step 5 is gone. It must be deleted by now. Then exit from the shortcut.
  8. now run the shortcut and give the permission again.
  9. go back to see if the thing in step 5 is back on.
  10. Now it should be working without asking the permission again.

this solved my issue. Try and let me know if it works for you too.

Hello deepakfrommississauga,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

We understand that shortcuts with Todoist ask you to allow permission each time it is run although previously enabled. We are happy to help.

Do shortcuts with Apple apps work on your Apple Watch work without having to allow permission each time it’s run? If not, we recommend contacting the developer of Todoist using the steps here: How to contact an app developer - Apple Support

"When to contact an app developer for help

  • If an app isn't working, but the issue doesn't affect other apps
  • If you can't use an in-app purchase, such as a bonus game level or "remove ads"

Contact the developer of an iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS app

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Search for the app, then tap it. If you can't find it, tap the account button  or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Purchased, tap "Not on this [device]," then tap the app.
  3. The app's product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don't see App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID."

These steps may help. Let us know if you have further questions.

Take care.

I also have this same issue and have been checking back every few months to check if it’s fixed. The apl i use is Timery and this asking for permission happens with permission to use location with Timery as well as simply permission to use Timery. I’ve tried many a workaround, but it is always an issue even if i choose “Always Allow” I am Always Asked the next time I use the shortcut.

Keeping this one alive. Yes, I'm all up-to-date on iOS/WatchOS updates. Running a Shortcut on my Apple Watch involving ANY third-party app still re-asks for permission. This is extra maddening when I am also first asked to "run" the Shortcut after tapping on the complication. I like to listen to podcasts at night using Overcast and created a Shortcut to start a 15-minute sleep timer.

It goes like this:

*taps shortcut on Apple Watch

*waiting

'Overcast Sleep Timer' 'Run?' ...YES, RUN!

*waiting... waiting...

'Allow "Overcast Sleep Timer" to access "Overcast"?' 'Allow' 'Don't Allow' ...YES, ALLOW!

Note: the permission thing also happens if I try to initiate any shortcut involving a third-party app using Siri via my Apple Watch or my AirPods, but not if I use Siri via my iPhone.

All my devices and apps are updated. This happens with every third-party app.

Siri says, "Allow 'To Do' to access 'Todoist'? Allow or don't allow?"

Every.

Time.

I run the shortcut from my Apple watch.

I just bought this iPhone 13 and Apple watch 8 three mos. ago. I'm new to Apple products. I was under the impression that Shortcuts were great for productivity. This design by Apple is maddening.

It is unproductive for my own watch to waste my time by asking me permission each time I add an item to my to do list.

I have the same issue with "Allow Access..." when launching a [working iPhone] shortcut from the watch.

Same requirement - add spoken text as a task - it doesn't trust Microsoft ToDo either.

For me, prompting for permission to access an app is a showstopper. I need something fast to capture tasks while I drive. Pressing the crown on the watch for Siri to trigger the shortcut worked great for a while.

I haven't found a workaround
