iPhone stuck in recovery mode

I tried to update the iOS from IOS 16.4 to IOS 16.5 always it told me inside the settings i was no longer connected to the internet. I tried with wifi and mobile data always same issue no internet then i tried to update using iTunes on my computer. Downloaded the 6gb update file and clicked update during the update i got unknown error and it told me that i need to recover the iPhone so remove all data it was in recovery mode. Pressed to remove all data then it gave me another unknown error and the phone is stuck in recovery mode seems like the IOS is destroyed i cant update it or anything always getting errors like 2002 or 9 any idea how to fix this or should i visit iStores in my area and see if they could redownload the IOS? Thanks for all responses

Try to update your device again

If your device disconnects during the update or restore, or if your computer couldn't tell your device to restore, you may see one of these messages:

  • The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9).
  • The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4005).
  • The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4013).
  • The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4014).


Try these steps:

  1. Make sure your Mac has the latest version of macOS or the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Force your device to restart:
    • iPad models without a Home button: press and quickly release the volume button closest to the top button. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button. Press and hold the top button until the device restarts. If you're not sure, see which buttons you need to press to restart your iPad.
    • iPhone 8 or later: press and quickly release the volume up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. Press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
    • iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPod touch (7th generation): press and hold both the side (or top) button and the volume down button until you see the Apple logo. 
    • iPad models with a Home button, iPhone 6s or earlier and iPod touch (6th generation) or earlier: press and hold both the side (or top) button and the Home button until you see the Apple logo.
  1. Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable. Locate your device on your computer.
  2. When you see the option to update or restore, click Update – not Restore – to reinstall the software and keep your personal data.


Check your USB connections

If you see error 4005, 4013 or 4014, use these steps.

If you see one of the errors below, check your USB connection, USB cable, USB port or computer:

  • 13, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650
  • 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009
  • An error that includes "invalid response"


Here's what to check. Try again after each step:

  1. Use the USB cable that came with your device. If you don't have it, try a different Apple USB cable. 
  2. Switch to a different USB port on your computer. Don't plug into your keyboard.
  3. Switch to a USB port on a different computer.
  4. If you still see the error, check for other USB issuescheck your third-party security software, then check your hardware.

If you still see an error, contact Apple Support.

Restart your device

If you see the Restore screen, restart your device:

Reinstall iOS or iPadOS

If you still see the Restore screen after you restart, you need to reinstall iOS or iPadOS:

  1. On your Mac, make sure that you’ve installed the latest software updates (including iTunes if you have MacOS Mojave or earlier). Or on your Windows PC, make sure that you’ve installed the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Connect your device to your computer using the cable that came with your device. You should see this message: "There's a problem with the [your device name] that requires it to be updated or restored."
  3. Click Update (not Restore) to reinstall iOS or iPadOS and keep your personal data.



If the above fails


If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up

If you see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen during startup, try these steps:

  1. Connect your device to a computer. On a Mac with macOS Catalina 10.15, open Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave 10.14 or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes.
  2. Locate your device on your computer.
  3. While your device is connected, follow these steps:
    • iPad models with Face ID: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Press and hold the Top button until your device begins to restart. Continue holding the Top button until your device goes into recovery mode.
    • iPhone 8 or later: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then, press and hold the Side button until you see the recovery mode screen.
    • iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPod touch (7th generation): Press and hold the Top (or Side) and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.
  • iPad with Home button, iPhone 6s or earlier, and iPod touch (844) 220-9113(6th generation) or earlier: Press and hold both the Home and the Top (or Side) buttons at the same time. Keep holding them until you see the recovery mode screen.
