Got an AirTag about 2 years ago and it is no longer working. When I replace the battery I will SOMETIMES hear the chime, but not most times when the battery goes back in, and it is not being seen by the iPhone it's paired with. Is this a normal lifespan? What has been people's experience?
Are you confident that your replacement batteries do NOT have “bitterant” coating.

For the battery, about a year. For the AirTag itself, considerably longer than that. It would depend on how it is used ... or "misused." ... and by the latter, I am referring to the conditions that it is subjugated to.

Keep in mind that AirTags have only been on the market for just a tad over 2 years.
So even the “oldest” AirTags are only now “coming due” for their 2nd battery replacement.
There’s simply not a significant body of “user experience” re: their service life expectancies.

Unfortunately, Apple’s AirTag warranty - at least in the U.S. - is only for one year.

Thank you for your comment. It IS a Duracell, so there may be that "bitterant" coating on it. Sometimes I can get it to make contact and chime, but inconsistently and never when the back gets put back on. I'll try a different brand of battery and see if that makes a difference.
I bought AirTags at the same time about 4 years ago. I’ve replaced batteries several times. 3 of the 4 work well. One of them just doesn’t work. Will Apple replace the one and how do I request that?
bought one for my dog back in 2021 and it still works even if he drops it every now and then, have since bought 4 more for wallets and keychains
i only ever had one, changed batt on it 4 times, never used duracell though
think one can clean off the coating
