What is the AirTag life expectancy?

After getting a low battery warning, I have replaced the battery in my Airtag and it still won’t work. I tried two different batteries, wiped them off with rubbing alcohol, and still no beep. My Find My can find it. Do they just die after a while?

AFAIK, Apple has not officially published the "life expectancy" for their AirTags, other than for battery life for typical use.

Like the others, I have had my tags for several years now, only having to change their batteries yearly. However, it is also possible that you just have a defective tag. Should that be the case, it would be covered under the Apple 1-year warranty.

Interestingly, at my most recent battery replacement a couple of weeks ago, all three brands on the rack had bitterant.

But then I noticed that the some (not all) of the Duracells - while still having bitterant - were additionally marked “Apple AirTag Compatible

They all worked great.
