My icloud says i have used 35 Gb of my 50 but my phone is saying I don’t have enough storage. But it seems like plenty. It also show only my old phone and not my new phone.

I bought a new iphone 14. I can’t seem to get it to do an icloud backup. It say not enough storage, but have the 50g volume and have only used 35 of it. It also seems to show my old phone. I am wondering if it is trying to basically double my storage need by keeping data from my old phone which is on my new phone and backing up both? That would explain the storage issue but its a duplicatiin

You can see your backups in Settings>Your Name>iCloud>iCloud Backups>On. In the next screen you should see all of your device backups and how how much storage they are currently using. If you see the old phone backup in there you can delete it if you want to. Tap on it and delete it in the next screen.

However, that old phone is no longer backing up if you have erased it.
