Can I increase the memory in my Mac Studio?
Is it possible to increase the memory in my 32 GB Mac Studio (Apple M1 Max)? I am having trouble editing large Word files.
Mac Studio, macOS 13.4

32 GB in a Mac Studio is a enormous amount of performance… for text editing.
Microsoft Word and large documents doesn’t perform all that well on any system, per many reports.
Here are some suggestions from the vendor’s website on how to keep Word working adequately with large documents, not the least of which is “don’t do that, merge smaller docs with this tool”:

Here’s another complaint from a different platform from a few years ago(and Word performance is a fairly common topic):
In general, Word would not be my choice for books, scripts, or any document of length.
For other suggestions, contact the app vendor. They have forums over there, so maybe ask this of folks that use Word in the Microsoft forums. And most people are using a system with less performance than a 32 GB Mac Studio…
With 32 GB already installed, it is extremely unlikely that RAM memory is the underlying issue.
Large Word files should pose no problem except editing SPEED, even if your Mac was completely starved for RAM memory.
What GROSS Symptoms are you seeing?
No you cannot add any memory.

A 272-page document should be split into chapters for use in Word.
A long time ago, Word versions suggested (for performance reasons) you should edit each chapter separately. (it cut way down on the number of diskette swaps as well.)
Word has always provided tools for rebuilding, page renumbering, and indexing for multi-chapter books and documents.
