My keyboard disappears when writing a message on my iPad in email app. The only way I have found to restore the keyboard is to cancel, then save the message, and go to “drafts” to reopen the message. Has anyone found an easier solution?

Do you sometimes use a Bluetooth keyboard with your iPad? If so, it might be attempting to connect to that device.
Try isolating the issue by testing to see whether it occurs, if you temporarily disabling Bluetooth: Use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in Control Center
