adding email account to iPad

I have a 1st generation iPad Air Model MF012LL/A running ios 12.5.7. My problem is it will not allow me to add an email account (yahoo Mail). I had deleted the Yahoo mail because it stopped downloading emails. When I try and add it back I get am error message that it can't connect to the server because the password and or user name is incorrect. That's simply not true. I can sign into the account the exact same credentials on my iphone and on my computer. I've rebooted the device, deleted the mail app and re-installed it and nadda. Help!
