Using Outlook, but forwarding email defaults to Apple native email

My company use Outlook for email. I have Outlook loaded on my Mac. (Please don't instruct me to switch to Apple mail as a solution as it's not an option. I'm using a Mac instead of PC, which the company recommends). I have Outlook selected as default email. Often I need to open an attachment sent in Outlook email, and forward it to someone else in my company. When I do this, it defaults to Apple's native mail. My current workaround is to download the attachment, respond to the email and add the attachment from Finder-'recents.' It's an extra step, and forces me to download the attachment. The same happens with IOS. Is there a solution?

Thanks for reaching out tf888,

It sounds like you have the Mail app set as your default mail program, but you'd like to make Outlook your default choice instead. We can help.

A great place to start is with these steps to Change the default web browser or email app on Mac:

Change the default email app

Make sure that the email app you want to use is already installed, then follow these steps:

1. Open the Mail app.
2. From the Mail menu in the menu bar, choose Settings (or Preferences).*
3. Click General.
4. Choose an email app from the “Default email reader” pop-up menu. If you don't see your email app in the menu, choose Select from the menu, then select your email app from the file dialog that opens. If you're using webmail instead of an email app, you can choose a web browser in this step, but the browser might not open webmail automatically when you click email links. Some third-party browsers and webmail services might have their own settings to change this behavior.

* To change settings in Mail, you must first have added an email account in Mail. If you don't want to do that, open the other email app that you want to use, then check its settings for a similar way to set the default email reader.

Hope that helps.

Take care.

I'm not sure what you mean. All you should have to do to forward/respond to an email in Outlook is press Command+R. If it needs to be forwarded to multiple addresses in the email you have, then press Command+Shift+R.

Technically, Command+J is Forward in Outlook, but it doesn't do anything different than Command+R for reply.

Mail should never appear since the keyboard commands to reply or forward are being used in Outlook.
