Ruler use on PDF files, Ipad

I have a question regarding using the ruler provision on a PDF file on my Ipad.

Once I click the ruler, it comes on for a few moments, before it auto-deselects. I would like it to stay permanently on the screen until I manually de-select it. How do I do that?

And FYI, I am using the most updated software.

Moving or disabling side panel in pdf files while in markup mode So this is frustrating. When I’m in markup mode on a long pdf file on my iPad (pro 4th gen, iOS 16.4.1), there is the side panel that is on the left hand side of the page. as a left-handed person, this is freakin debilitating when I am trying to markup my doc and my hand touch’s the part of the screen with the side panel and the pages jump around. Really difficult when you’re trying to take notes during lecture. Apple got it right (lol) with palm rejection with the apple pencil so why cant they let us move this damn side panel. It just seems like there’s got to be a way to do this. Anyone know of a way to move the side panel or disable it???

Markup Ruler I update to iPadOS 16.4 yesterday and now my ruler in markups doesn’t work as a straight edge. You can draw right through it. Any tips?

iPadOS 17 removed the ability to select text using Pencil in PDFs in the Files app Prior to iPadOS 17 I was happily using my Pencil in the Files app to select text in PDFs and then highlight it. You just had to: 1) Enter Markup mode (clicking on the Markup icon) 2) Choose the Select tool 3) Exit Markup mode. After that, you could select text using the Pencil and then use the popup to highlight it. iPadOS 17 has for some inexplicable reason removed this ability. It was one of the main uses I had for the iPad. Now, the only way to highlight text in PDFs in the Files app is to use your finger.... (?!?!) What is the point of having a sophisticated stylus device that can't now even do the most basic functionality such as selecting text? I really don't understand....
