When i create a playlist in Apple Music, half of the songs i add just magically disappear from the playlist. What could be causing this and does anyone have any suggestions to make it stop?

If you are attempting to burn a mix of your purchased or your bought-from-or-ripped-from-CDs-elsewhere and Apple Music DRM-protected (rented) music onto a CD or DVD or into a video or movie you are creating, or copying the playlist onto a music player that doesn’t log into the iTunes store (including any iPod not-touch), or are somehow also changing country or region, this can be (likely is) DRM on this (rented) music. Particularly if it’s just the rented music disappearing.
If the above does not apply here, and you are attempting to play the music from a device associated with your same Apple ID, and are not changing countries or regions, then this seems like a bug.
I’d restart the iPhone and try again,…
… and log out of the Apple ID and restart and log back in and try again,…
… and then contact Apple Support.

It’s likely a copyright issue - you can’t do anything about it unfortunately. Depending on the artist, adding to personal playlists could be blocked.
