Help changing my iCloud account password

For the past two weeks I’ve been needing to change the password on my iCloud account because I completely forgot it over the course of three years so now I’m trying to download and update the apps on my phone but I need a password for an account I don’t even use anymore every time So I’ve been trying to reset the password but it asks me for my password even though I don’t know it and it’s just confusing and I need to reset my entire account because I need my password to reset my password and I don’t know the password Someone please help Apple is deceiving me
