If I put the USB into a port and the C into the iPad, it says it's charging but the charge keeps going down

My wife has the above ipad, which has the USB-C ports on either end and a plug which must be used with the USB-C.. I tried to get a new charging cord with the normal USB on one end and the USB-C on the other. So we wouldn't have to take lots of cords and chargers if we went on vacation, for example. I asked Apple for one and got a Mophie, not an Apple product but sold by Apple. As you might expect, it does not charge. If I put the USB into a port and the C into the ipad, the battery in the top right corner says it is charging but the charge keeps going down. Anyone have any ideas or solutions? Thanks!

All modern iPad’s are supplied with a USB-C Power Adapter - and an appropriate USB-C charging cable. Be aware that the older (rectangular) USB Type-A connection standard has been deprecated in favour of USB-C.

Many countries/regions now mandate, by law, that portable rechargeable devices are recharged using Power Adapters and cables that have USB-C connections. While USB Type-A may be around for a while, it’s only a matter of time before they disappear altogether.

You should also understand that your iPad Air4 will charge at its maximum supported charging rate when charged from a USB-C power source that supports USB PD (Power Delivery), rated at 20W or greater. If using USB Type-A, the maximum charging rate is limited to 12W (i.e., 2.4A @5V).

As for your mophie Power Adapter and your iPad, either your Power Adapter or cable may have a fault.
