I've created a new Project in iMovie for Mac and I want to import some photos from a *Non System* photo library album.
I have Photos open and iMovie next to it, but I can't drag the photos from my Album to 'Import Media' part of iMovie.
Of course the Photo Picker shows my System Library photos, but that's not what I'm looking to import.
I'm able to drag a Photo from my Desktop to iMovie, but not Photos.
Any ideas how this can be done?

Of course, you would export the photos to a desktop folder, not to the desktop in general.
Another way would be to make your non-system photos library the system photo library temporarily. You can change it back later. Then you can access and import the photos into iMovie via the Photos item in the iMovie project side bar. To do that, open your non-system Photos library and go to Photos/Preferenes/General and click on the words "use as system photo library".

Then you would need to export the photos to your desktop and drag them into iMovie from there.

Yes, with that size of a non-system library it wouldn't be possible to put the pics in the since you don't have sufficient cloud space. . You'd need to turn off your iCloud sync first. You might want to post in the Photos for Mac forum to see how that would work. I don't use Photos enough to advise about cloud usage.
Exporting the photos to a desktop folder first seems to be the answer, although you don't like it.

So my non system photo library is 1.5TB and on an external drive. I don’t have that much iCloud space. I just want to make a photostory with my Hawaii photos.
It sounds like a very bad idea for this simple project.
Maybe it can’t be done on a Mac.

It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just that in my original post I stated that I knew how to use this method but was looking to see if there was a better way or if I was missing something.
Several posts later and we haven’t advanced the issue at all.
You’ve concluded that my best option was the one I initially said I wasn’t happy with.
I really just gotta stop coming here looking for help.
Create an event in iMovie and drag the photos into the Event. Or, open a project and drag the photos into the timeline.

It Sounds like it should work that way, but it doesn’t. iMovie won’t accept the drop.
Why the desktop? That seems very inelegant. I have thousands of photos. My desktop will be a disaster.
