My iPhone doesn't recognize my earphones after updating to iOS 16.5

I recently updated to iOS 16.5 and ever since, if I had my iPhone 13 connected with the lightning connector to my car for CarPlay, upon getting home and trying to use my wired Apple earphones (new) my iPhone does not “recognise” that earphones have been plugged in. If I plug it into my Mac using the charging cable, the Mac also does not recognise that an iPhone has been plugged in to it. The only way to get it ‘recognised’ is to enter recovery mode. I have checked all the cables and both the charger and earphones work perfectly fine on my old iPhone 11, and my iPad. These are also new, bought with my 13 in January. Phone hasn’t been dropped. Any advice? 😢😢

Hey jaco72,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about issues with your iPhone lightning port.

The fact it works in recovery mode means it likely isn't related to the port hardware.

First, update to iOS 16.5.1: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If you still have issues, check your settings: Allow USB and other accessories to connect to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

See if those settings above are already correct, try turning them off then restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

Then, go back to those settings and turn them back on. Test if it's still not allowing connections.

If it still has issues after all this steps above, try a force restart: Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Thanks!

Same issue on two iPhones - lightning connector with earbuds suddenly not working

iPhone SE on 17.2.1 - clean port - force restart worked one time as soon as the connection was removed and reinserted it no longer works :(

iPhone 8 on 16.7.4 - clean port - force restart did nothing. :(

I also have 2 others i have tested ( iPhone 12 pro and iPhone 12 Pro max both on 17.2.1) both work perfectly with the same connector and earbuds.

seems like an apple update has cuased this to the older devices?

please help , this is driving me crazy

all phone worked via this connection
