Hello Laurelfrmaz,

It sounds like you may have been the victim of a phishing attempt styled as a misleading pop-up about a security issue on your Mac. You can read more about these types of messages in the Apple Support article, "Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams."

Try to clear your history again and block fraudulent pop-ups in Safari on your Mac. These steps can remove the pop-up and clear it from your history.

1. In the Safari app  on your Mac, choose History > Clear History, then click the pop-up menu.
2. Choose how far back you want your browsing history cleared.

Clear your browsing history in Safari on Mac

* There is a list on this page that outlines everything that will be removed when you clear history.

Open Safari and choose Safari > Settings (or Preferences) from the menu bar.
* In the Websites tab, you can configure options to allow or block some or all pop-ups.
* In the Security tab, turn on the setting to warn when visiting a fraudulent website.

We hope this helps! If you're still unable to get rid of the pesky pop-up, it's time to reach out to Apple Support for more advanced assistance. You can contact them here: Get Support
